Bermuda Is Love will host another free clothing giveaway at Elliot Elementary School on Saturday [April 23] from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., where they will “hand out clothes for all ages, genders and sizes.”
A spokesperson said: “The goal of our free clothing offer is to provide free clothing to as many people as possible, as well as to reduce the impact of fast fashion and consumerism in our society.
“First, clothing is a basic human need and a human right, and Bermuda Is Love believes that everyone should have equal access to free clothing as it is necessary for survival, hygiene and protection.
“Furthermore, the right to dress helps maintain self-confidence and dignity, by giving people the opportunity to represent themselves as they want to be seen. By ensuring everyone has access to clothing, we can empower individuals to feel stronger and more confident, so they can progress towards self-reliance.
“This is also a reminder that what you wear should not and does not define you, and that every person should be treated with respect and granted basic human rights, no matter who you are or what you wear. .
“Second, the fast fashion industry encourages a throwaway culture because many clothes are cheap and not designed to last. The fashion industry is the second most polluting industry on Earth and produces 10% of global emissions, contributing to climate change.
“Thus, we encourage the public to buy fewer clothes, to buy in an ethical and sustainable way, to buy second-hand, to recycle your clothes, to donate what you don’t wear and to treat your clothes with care to prolong their life. lifetime.
“We are grateful for all the donations we have received from the community to make our free clothing giveaways possible. Unfortunately, we cannot accept any more clothing donations at this time.
“Please follow us on our social media to find out how you can get involved.”
