Color is the most important trend of the Spring/Summer 2022 season. Step aside, shrinking purple, it’s the season for the bold and the bright.
“I describe the colors of the season as ‘solar-powered,'” Fellingham said. “I mean beautiful bright colors that you would see in a fantastic sunrise or sunset.”
Specifically, get ready for a vibrant and vibrant color palette that includes Lime Green, Saturated Yellow, Classic Kelly Green, Bright Blue, Bright Pink, and Sunset Orange.
“On the reverse side of all these brilliant colors, we have head-to-toe white,” she said. “The way forward for spring is bright or white.”
Micro or macro hemming is this year for your Kentucky Derby outfit
“Hemming is either micro or macro,” the fashion expert said. “The middy is still there, but it’s not the cutting edge look anymore. What’s super fresh is extremely short or crazy long.”
If you’re going for a floor-grazing hemline, Fellingham said the trend isn’t just super long, but also voluminous and voluminous. And cropped hemlines are best described as micro-minis that show off a lot of leg.
Bold details are the biggest fashion trend for spring 2022
In addition to bright colors, designers lure shoppers to the in-store display with loads of surprising details. This year, fashion is getting fun again.
“You’ll find details like lacing and fringe and lots of unusual textures in play, like pleated fabric with a popcorn texture,” Fellingham said. “I think designers are trying to innovate and put details in places where you’re not used to seeing them in a way that makes you want to stop and shop.”
Get ready for revealing cutouts, one-shoulder dresses and tops, sheer mesh, gorgeous big bows, body-length ruffles and lots of pleats – all of which make the garments look like something you don’t. ‘ve ever owned before.

According to Fellingham, the glitz and glamor of evening wear shows up on dazzling sneakers, shoes, t-shirts and accessories.
“Designers have taken the comfort of the pandemic and converted it into more edgy clothing,” she said. “They want people to look amazing but feel comfortable while they’re dazzling.”
What Men Should Wear to the Kentucky Derby in 2022
Menswear is also blurring the line between night and day this season. Designers show more sexist looks like men’s tunics and also a plethora of spring flowers, bright colors and interesting details. And for the Kentucky Derby, expect to see lots of pink.
“Menswear continues to evolve, which means it’s a lot more fun and a lot less khaki,” Fellingham said.

Designers of interesting details hope that you will want to wear up your toes in spring fashion. Sky-high platforms are a trending shoe style, as are heels in a variety of structured and unusual shapes. And, like everywhere else this spring, don’t skimp on color. There’s a lot of leeway and options to create your own style in this season’s fashion,” Fellingham said. “Keep in mind that designers are working to get us out of the boring, stretchy clothes we’ve grown accustomed to during the pandemic and into beautiful, gorgeous outfits that are also incredibly comfortable.”
