Mount Vernon student-run clothing store celebrates 1st anniversary

A Mount Vernon student-run clothing store celebrates one year of opening.

The Knights Boutique opened last May and is a 100% volunteer-run store that allows Mount Vernon Secondary School students to “shop” for free on clothing, school supplies, toiletries and more Again.

Students are permitted to take three items per visit.

Last June, the store was able to provide 11 students with prom dresses and accessories and six students with suits.

The staff at the Knights Boutique emphasized the importance of donating appropriate clothing and other items. Clothing should be used gently and have no stains or holes.

“We don’t want our students to feel like they’re at rock bottom,” said Nicole Jones, Administrative Assistant and Supervisor of Knights Boutique.

The shop is open for two lunch periods during the school day and after school on Thursdays.

GIFT REQUIREMENTS: New/gently used items only, no stains or holes. Keep in mind that most students will come out of the store wearing these clothes.

NEEDS: Metal racks on wheels, hangers, school supplies, toiletries, shoes, men’s clothing, winter clothes, razors, towels and reusable water bottles.

TO DONATE: To donate, please email Danielle Giusti at [email protected]; Nicole Jones at [email protected]
