Victoria Beckham has announced the launch of another underbelly fashion brand – VB Body. A new permanent capsule collection, the line consists of form-fitting basics, designed to celebrate the shape and size of the wearer. Along with its beauty line, VB Body is its most affordable range yet and includes bodycon dresses, crop tops, pencil skirts and split front leggings. The label is a cross between shapewear and ready-to-wear – which seems to be a trend among celebrity brands following Kim Kardashian’s SKIMS line of shapewear that can double as casual wear.
The former Spice Girl took to Instagram to share a video about her new venture and explained that the pieces in the new collection are made from a “tight jersey” that “clings to the body parts you we want to celebrate”. She even added, “The more curvilinear you are (ladies), the better. It’s time to celebrate our female bodies. The dresses are inspired by her trip to Miami where she wanted to show off a bit more skin and was tired of burying herself under “so many layers of clothes”, which led to the design of VB Body.
Returning to her roots with figure-hugging dresses, for which she became known when she launched Victoria Beckham in 2008, under the mentorship of renowned couturier Roland Mouret, Beckham dedicates this collection to the “founding principles of the DNA of brand”.
The brand’s press release also states: “Femininity and sensuality are the foundations of VB Body”. What makes this line of bodywear so special is the fact that it is made from an exclusive fabric – a luxurious tightly woven jersey, designed to sculpt and The line comes in a minimal set of colors, black , white, blush and chocolate brown, which will be accentuated by bright colors that will be added throughout the seasons, starting with an orange-red hue for spring-summer 2022.
Moving away from tailoring and oversized layers, the launch of VB Body joins the fashion industry‘s current trend of empowering women to celebrate their bodies – whatever their size and shape – and has was applauded on the catwalks for AW22. Lingerie worn as ready-to-wear and figure-hugging jumpsuits and dresses are the post-pandemic style of choice, and Victoria Beckham was savvy enough to recognize a request – with her own added twist of course. Plus, the affordable price serves as a profitable business model, with some parts starting at just £90.
